Multislice CT angiography

- Multislice CT uses the basic principles of spiral CT, but allows more rapid acquisition of multiple data sets, making scan times shorter and artefact less likely.
- Multislice technology allows for improved image quality in breathless and uncooperative patients.
- In the diagnosis of pulmonary embolus, segmental and subsegmental detail is improved.
- Cardiac imaging is improved by ECG gating.
- Images similar to catheter angiograms can be obtained in the extremities and the cervical arteries.
- In trauma cases, a single multislice CT investigation may be able to replace a number of modalities that would previously have been necessary.
