- Simultaneous kidney pancreas transplants are a treatment option for diabetics with end-stage renal failure.
- The pancreas transplant protects the renal transplant from developing diabetic nephropathy and improves quality of life.
- The number of transplants performed has increased in the last decade owing to improved surgical techniques and immunosuppression.
- Common complications include rejection, vascular thrombosis, sepsis and anastomotic leaks.
- Ultrasound is the initial imaging modality for assessment of vasculature and fluid collections.
- CT is used in assessment of collections, pancreatitis and anastomotic leaks.
