- Vulval cancer is a rare malignancy most common in the elderly, but can occur in pre-menopausal patients.
- The most important prognostic factors are tumour size, depth of invasion and nodal involvement.
- Nodal involvement progresses in a stepwise fashion from the groin to the pelvic nodes in most cases.
- Imaging is used in assessment of nodal involvement, but has no role in staging the disease.
- Ultrasound, MRI and recently positron emission tomography (PET) imaging have been used in assessing nodal disease.
