Highlighting the key areas of vascular imaging and intervention is a difficult task in a fast moving subspeciality. Over the last 5 years many diagnostic angiographic techniques have been completely replaced by the exquisite anatomical detail available from modern magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) and CT. Increasingly, diagnostic radiologists are exposed to a variety of vascular conditions such as acute aortic syndromes, aortic stent grafting and critical limb ischaemia that now have at their core decisions based on non-invasive imaging techniques. As cross-sectional imaging techniques continue to improve, radiologists will be pushed further into the "front-line" and it will become essential for all radiologists to be aware of the indications for intervention for a range of procedures for which radiology is now a key tool.
This edition could not possibly address the entire remit of vascular imaging and intervention. We have chosen articles that focus on areas that have seen rapid change and are frequently seen by most radiologists. The articles explain the optimum imaging strategies and the key findings to determine the interventional options.
Finally for the purposes of self assessment a collection of multiple choice questions and a picture quiz are included.
